What SquadPad collects
SquadPad is designed to be privacy-friendly. We collect minimal data to understand how the site is used and to keep things running smoothly.
Analytics
We use Umami, a privacy-focused, open-source analytics tool. Umami does not use cookies, does not track users across websites, and does not collect personal information. It only records:
- Page views (which pages are visited)
- Referrer (where you came from)
- Browser and device type
- Country (from anonymized IP)
Analytics data is hosted on our own server at stats.wavedepth.com. No data is shared with third parties.
Cloud Relay
When you play online, your browser connects to our cloud relay server to exchange controller inputs with the game host. The relay:
- Temporarily holds your connection while you play (room code, player name, IP address for rate limiting)
- Forwards only binary controller data (joystick position, button presses) between you and the host
- Deletes all data when you disconnect or the room closes
- Does not log or store gameplay data
Local storage
SquadPad saves your preferences (player name, key bindings, haptics setting, recent room codes) in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device.
No accounts, no cookies
SquadPad does not require sign-up, does not set cookies, and does not use any third-party tracking or advertising.
Open source
The full source code is available at github.com/nerveband/squadpad. You can verify exactly what the code does.
